‘Identity’ is a short film made by my good friend George Ovcinikov back in the days when we were at college together. I always love working with George , we get on incredibly well and we always have a good laugh!
George had approached me about being involved and doing a voice-over for this project that he had; he explained the concept to me – I loved it. He asked me to aim for aim for a neutral accent and gave me a script to work on which was essentially a socio-political message, a warning really.
Based on the premise of the film and George’s direction I tried a few things out during some rehearsal sessions and I ended up sounding a bit like Hugo Weaving, a cross between his character in V For Vendetta and his Agent Smith character in The Matrix trilogy (ish- that’s what I was aiming for anyway!)
George loved it and before long we had it nailed so here is the final result. The film is nothing short of brilliant, and I was proud to be a part of George’s project but I was honestly surprised by the amount of interest generated by my voice; I showed the film to some of my friends and took it for granted that they’d know I was the one narrating but most of them didn’t, and I actually got my first professional voice-acting gig from doing this!
